It's all in the sound...finally.
Like most acrylic players, you probably understand you are a rare breed. You’re assumed to be either a show off, tone deaf or crazy.
When I first made the jump into acrylics with an original Ludwig Vistalite kit, I made several concessions, tonally speaking. I wasn’t crazy with the actual ‘sound’ of the drums but I really liked the punch and the projection they were infamous for. I knew that ‘warmth’ was a lost cause and trying to get a decent tuning was an exercise in patience.
This all changed when I played an RCI kit.
Now words like ‘tone’ and ‘natural’ were back in my lexicon and my RCI kit maintained the same projection and punch qualities of its acrylic predecessor.
To be frank, this company is the future of acrylic drums. I don’t say that without due consideration, especially after playing, recording and working with drums of all sorts for the last 15 years.
They don’t sound like maple nor do they sound like birch, mahogany, oak or bubinga. They certainly don’t sound like my old Vistalites. These drums take a tuning, stay in tune and sound fabulous.
Acrylic drums have come a long way since their inception. Even now, many acrylic drum manufacturers still don’t seem to have the secret recipe that RCI utilizes. It’s what makes this company unique.
If you’re buying an acrylic kit simply for the looks, well you lucked out and got a great sounding kit as a bonus. But for a player like myself who always wished that acrylic drums could sound as well as they projected, this company made it happen.
Thanks again, RCI.
