BONK ON!!!

Feb 10th 2008: JS&H performed at "Sunday for Sammy" at Newcastle City Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, UK. Amazing event, amazing line-up, loads of moolah raised for charity, and 4000 people were present at two separate performances to see a whole host of North East fame entertain everyone! Tim Healy, Timothy Spall, Brendan Healey, "Moxy" etc wowed the crowd, with musical interludes from ourselves and two other bands. Watch out for the DVD!!!

December 2007: "Meg's Hill", our debut album, can now be downloaded from iTunes and http://www.jenstevens.com (hard copy CD). We really value your support and would love you to listen to our wonderful, critically-acclaimed, debut album!
This month also saw me appear in Drummer Magazine, in an advert representing Protection Racket on page 30. Check out the photo on my profile, with my gorgeous girlfriend Jennifer Thompson! Bless her for putting up with me :-)

October 24, 2007: "Meg's Hill" album launch was absolutely fantastic!! We performed well, the sound and lights were awesome, and the crowd were incredibly responsive and a pleasure to play for! The whole night was filmed, and will be available very soon. Barnesy here played a bit of a drum solo!! Most of all, my RCI drums sounded FANTASTIC!! I changed the EC2 on my rack tom for a G2, and it was delightful :-)

October 2007: Jen Stevens & The Hiccups debut album, "Meg's Hill", being launched at The Sage (http://www.thesagegateshead.org/) on October 22nd! "Meg's Hill" is being distributed by Proper Distribution, and will be available at HMV, Virgin, MVC, http://play.com, amazon.co.uk, as well as loads of other major retail outlets.

My name is is Adam Barnes, and I play drums (and sing backing vox) for Jen Stevens & The Hiccups. I've been playing drums for 10 years, and i've been a member of the Hiccups since July 2006. Check out our MySpace page for songs and band/gig updates. We play a hybrid genre of Swing/Jazz/Blues/Funk/Folk.

My main influences are Roger Taylor, Chad Smith, Dave Weckl, Keith Moon, Buddy Rich, John Bonham and Billy Cobham.

I'm proudly endorsed by RCI Drums! I'm representing a fantastic brand, that's becoming more of a household name, and I can't wait to display the RCI logo on our upcoming appearance on Later with Jools Holland.

Kit Specs:

+ Colour = Emerald Green Starlite
+ 24x18 undrilled Kick
+ 12x9 Rack Tom with Gauger Pro Suspension Mount and DW Tom Bracket
+ 14x14 Floor Tom on Legs, with Gauger Floor Tom Suspension System
+ 16x16 Floor Tom on Legs with Gauger Floor Tom Suspension System
+ 14x5.5 Snare with Puresound Snare Wires and black Trick throw-off

These drums sound AMAZING and look AWESOME! The snares are beautiful at all volumes, they're responsive and have a cracking tone, and the rimshot sounds great. The Kick is deep and thunderous, and sounds amazing especially through a PA (sounds amazing without!). The Toms have a brilliant range of frequencies from low through to high, and sound punchy, warm, deep and resonant.

Gauger Mounts enable maximum resonance, and they look amazing on any drums. I would recommend purchasing this amazing upgrade, to get the most out of your RCI kit, both sound and looks-wise.

As of October 2007, i'm also endorsed by Protection Racket Drum Cases. These babies are amazing! Keep my drums, hardware, cymbals and sticks highly protected and warm. Cases that no living man or beast can destroy :-) VERY highly recommended!!! Special thanks to Dean Bowdery for welcoming me into the Protection Racket family.

I also use Istanbul Agop and Alchemy cymbals, Evans Heads, LP Percussion and Vater sticks
HUGE Thanks to THE Andy Anderson for supplying me with RCI Drums (and everything else I own). Andy and his superb staff provide continued support and fantastic service.

I DONT WANNA BE BREAKING THIS STUFF BUT I GET A LIL CARRIED AWAY WHEN I PLAY,AND FOR THE CROWED ,WELL ON STAGE YOU HAVE TO OVER DRAMATIZE YOUR MOTIONS, BIG ARM SWINGS, STANDIN ON THE KIT, THIER ARE PEOPLE FAR AWAY FROM YOU , YOU WANNA RULE WHEN YOU ARE ENTERTAINING, LARGER THAN LIFE YOU KNOW. SO I SWING BIG AND HIT BIG, AND HARD TO SOMTIMES I SUPOSE. I AM NOT A EXEPTIONAL DRUMMER, I AM A EXEPTIONAL ENTERTAINER, LIKE ALOT OF PLAYERS ,I AM IDENTIFYED BY MY FANS FROM THESE MANNERISMS AND OVER THE TOP ANTICS, THE DOWN SIDE, WELL I LOST 3 PRIZE STAGG CYMBOLS IN THE PAST 2 WEEKS, BUT THEY HAD A GOOD RUN ,SOUNDED GREAT AND WERE NOT SO HARD ON THE WALLET. THE ONLY LONG LASTING CYMBOL IN MY CASE, IS A 21 IN OR 22, ZILJAN MEGABELL RIDE, AND I BEAT IT LIKE A CRASH. GOD BLESS IT TO CUZ THEY ARE HARD TO GET. I DESTROY THE TRIGGERS INSIDE OF ELECTRONIC KITS SO , I WILL STAY AWAY FROM THAT SUBJECT ALL TOGETHER, BUT I THANK YOU FOR YOU HARD , EFFORTS TO HELP, YOU CAN WRITE THAT LETTER OR RECOMONDATION TO PROTECTION RACKET ,HERE IN THE STATES, I THINK THAT MIGHT MAKE A IMPRESSION, DONT YOU NAKED ONE. LOL . NO PRESSURE, I AM JUST MESSING WITH YOU, MY POOR UNPROTECTED, RCIs , I WILL JUST HAVE TO GET MORE KITS SO NOT ANY ONE KIT GETS USED TO MUCH. I HAD A SOUND MAN KNOCK OVER A 9MM FROOR TOM ON ME AND WELL , SMALL THEY START, AND THEY DONT STAY THAT WAY. BUT THEY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN IN CASES AT THAT TIME ANY WAY, SO I KILLED HIM....THAT WAS FAR ,RIGHT ?

YOU NAME IT AND I HAVE BROKE IT, I AM NOT CYBOL BIAS, SO I BRAKE ANYTHING I CAN GET MY HANDS ON.

SteveSmith's avatar SteveSmith January 3, 2009 at 5:53 p.m.

YOU CAN SEND YOU OLD SABIANS OVER, YA IT MIGHT COST A BIT, BUT I WILL STILL BE CHEAPER THAN BUYING MORE CYMBOLS TO BREAK ! I THINK I NEED RUBBER CYMBOLS, OR HOW ABOUT SOME TECHNIQUE ? THIIERS A THOUGHT, NA I HAVE BEEN EYE BALLING THOSE FOR A WHILE, BUT I DO PISS THROUGH CYMBOLS AND DONT LIKE TO SPEND ALOT ON THEM...I HAVE BEEN BLACKBALLED BY SABIAN, NO MORE WARRENTYS FOR ME ....I ABUSE THEM THEY SAY, NO SHT I AM HITTING THEM WITH STICKS AND GOT A POLE RAMMED THROUGH THEM, IF THEY WE KIDS I WOULD BE LOCKED UP FOR THAT KIND OF USE, NO PEACE AND LOVE FROM ACROSS THE POND
